Spanair Terminates Codeshare Agreement with SAS; US Airways partnership Revised

SAS and Spanair starting 01DEC11 will terminate their bilateral codeshare agreement, which reservation for travel starting on and after 01DEC11 has been closed since Monday (01AUG11).

Financial situation at Spanair has been in “emergency situation” since January 2011, and has partially contributed to SAS’s financial loss via codesharing despite Spanair is no longer part of the SAS Group.

On separate note, Spanair and US Airways’ Codeshare agreement has converted to unilateral, which Spanair’s “JK” code no longer displayed on US Airways’ operating flight.

Thailand’s Sunny Airways to launch Operation to Frankfurt in mid-August 2011

Thailand’s new leisure carrier Sunny Airways announced on its website that it’ll launch operation on 19AUG11, with 2-class Boeing 767 operating Bangkok – Sharjah – Frankfurt route.

Service departs Bangkok on Fridays, Frankfurt on Saturdays. Sharjah is a technical stop. Schedule:

Turkish Airlines Planned Boeing 737-900ER Routes: Update 2 as of 05AUG11

As per 05AUG11 GDS timetable display, Turkish Airlines is delaying planned Boeing 737-900ER inaugural to December 2011. At the same time, planned 737-900ER service to Dar es Salaam and Nairobi in March 2012, is now moving forward to December 2011 as well.

THAI to Increase Beijing service from mid-September 2011

THAI starting 16SEP11 is increasing Bangkok – Beijing service from 7 to 10 weekly, with new flights operated by Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The flight increase will be maintained in Winter 2011 season.

The new flight offers late-night departure from Bangkok and morning departure from Beijing. Schedule as follows:

China Airlines W11 Sanya & Vienna Operation Update as of 05AUG11

As per 05AUG11 Amadeus timetable display, China Airlines has fixed its discrepancy between selected GDS (Amadeus and Galileo) and its inventory system, on Taipei Taoyuan – Vienna route.

Earlier this week (which was reported on 03AUG11), both Amadeus and Galileo were displaying service to reduce from 3 to 2 weekly, starting 30OCT11. As per 04AUG11 schedule update, the 3rd weekly service has been “restored”. However, there weren’t any changes to CI’s system.

Additionally, service on Taipei Taoyuan – Sanya route will now begin from 06SEP11.

Taiwan’s Mandarin Airlines starting 11OCT11 is increasing Taichung – Ho Chi Minh service from Daily to 9 weekly on regular basis.

Malaysia Airlines W11 International Changes from late-Sep 2011: Update as of 05AUG11

Note: Additional changes has made since the appearance of this post. Please refer to post on 08AUG11.

As per 05AUG11 GDS timetable and inventory display, Malaysia Airlines further adjusted planned Winter 2011/12 International operation. Unlike other airlines, all changes will go into effect from 26SEP11, one month earlier than most carriers (Although in 1960s/70s, most airlines’ transitioned from summer to Winter schedule from late-September).

Latest new changes sees the shift of new Airbus A330-300 (333) aircraft operation, which will be operating most Australian service. Other significant change sees the capacity reduction to London Heathrow, which results in cancellation of First Class on 1 of 2 Daily flights.

Shenzhen Airlines to launch Wuxi – Taipei with TransAsia Airways Codeshare from late-Aug 2011

Shenzhen Airlines from 29AUG11 will launch Wuxi – Taipei Taoyuan service, offering 6 weekly Boeing 737-800 flight on this route. Taiwan’s TransAsia Airways will display its “GE” code on this route as well.
